It would be nice to upgrade to the 3.8L, but for the price of that 3.1L, you got yourself a deal!

I would still change out the gaskets while the engine is out of the car before you put it in your Monte. Start fresh, and do it while its easy to get to everything.

I found a deal that I couldn't refuse. 3.1L from a '97 Lumina with 83K on it for $250.
Yeah, thats not bad at all.

I checked out your youtube video, you sir, have a very fine setup. I would be interested in getting something like that in the future. Is that the same motor as the the Bonneville SSEI?
Thanks- its just an L67, which comes in the SSEi Bonnevilles, Grand Prix GTP's, Regal GS's, etc etc. Plus a few mods obviously, lol.

Right there w/ ya bud. Had my 96 LS for 2 months and boom, cracked block. Definitely changes my opinion on GM products. I'm on a budget and thinking about buying another used 3.1 to drop in. I really don't have the time or the money to install a PCM, wiring harnesses, and axles. This was my daily driver, I just want it back on the road. Any suggestions?

Just do what I'm doin'. Find a car with the stock motor with decent milage at a few hundred bucks. I rented a truck from Home Depot for $20 to go pick up a rented engine hoist ($75/week). I'm one day into the swap right now, and it's not that bad of a job. I'm doing it in my driveway in the city, with one other friend of mine.

We got the motor out last night. Should only take one more night.

Motor swap is complete! Runs mint for now. No problems at all with the new motor. It took my friend Chris and I three days to do it. Alot easier than I thought it would be.
Thanks for your advice guys, and hopefully if one comes across my path I'll do this all over again with an L67.
