i think you shoul trade it in and get the new monte carlo that beter because first of all it is a v8 (no v6 is an ss. my opinion)and also it is rwd much beter
Although the new montes have a 5.3L 303 HP V8, they are NOT rear wheel drive. They ride on the currant impala platform which is front wheel drive.

Yep, my Monte Carlo is just a slow FWD family sedan. Then again how come what most people see are nothing but it's tail lights fading away into the darkness?

But no really, I do wish this Monte of mine was RWD with a manual trans, would be even more fun. Eh, that's what my '67 Camaro is for. [8D]

LOL....... Oh don't get me wrong here, I love the older Monte's and in some ways like them much better than the current body style. All I wanted to point out is don't discount the 3800's in these things, they are not your average V6 and there are a ton of mods out there for them.

If this is your daily driver I would do minimal safe mods.

Cold air intake, U-bend delete, muffler, and 3.5 inch pulley is perfectly safe and you will see about 30 hp improvement and won't experiance any knock problems.

Throwing a very small risk is all above, 3.4 inch pulley, dhp pcm and 93 or higher octane in northern states, if you live in Indiana, Ohio, or lower you will also want a 180* t-stat and colder plugs. - This is a very common stop point and will probably be mine. This will get you to 35-40 hp improvement. The risk is tied up in knock but shouldn't be a problem with those guidelines

I also plan on upgrading my rockers to 1.8's. That should get me to about 310 HP and also help reduce the chance of knock.

If you have access to a scanner you can be very safe.

If I do all of the above starting at stock, about how much am money am I looking at, assuming I can find a shop that will do it? I live in New Mexico; do I need the t-stat and plugs? Also, 93 octane gas is scarce to unavailable here; will I still realize 35-40 horses without it?
Thx.

what i did to my 88 ss is got rid of the motor and trans in favor of a wicked 400 small block and 3 speed with all the goodies and then no one can touch me that the way they should have built them from factory well maybe not as wild but at least 300 horses rear drive a real muscle car you know but stock or not the 3rd gen g-body is the best car ever .
