4.3 v6
#2
Where would you get a 4.3 V6? I'm not sure I've ever heard of one. If you want more power out of your car get the L67 topswap for your 3800 engine, that will put you at 250HP and 285TQ, from there you cand do $1,000 of modding and get well over 300HP. If you want to go over 400, it's easier to just turbocharge that car.

Why would you swap a 4.3 V6 if you want over 400hp? That would be a giant leap backwards from the 3.8. If you want to make good power try ZZPs turbo kit for the 3800. Thats your best bet for high HP numbers.

the 4.3 has been gm's workhorse engine for many years. they were used in monte carlos, s-10s, blazers, silverados, to name a few during the 80s and 90s. it is essentially a dead ringer to the 350 small block with the rear two cylinders chopped off. not a pavement pounder by any means, but were good daily drivers at the most.
stearns81, i don't know where you heard you could get 400hp out of an old technology 4.3L (NA i'm assuming) when you can only get about 300 or so max out of a modern supercharged 3.8L. as mrl390 said, you would be taking a HUGE step backwards. plus, we don't even know what direction you want to go with the project. is this a daily driver or drag strip car? NA or boosted?
so to answer your question, if you want 400hp, yes go to a camaro or turbo 3.8. boosting is usually your best bang for your buck. otherwise the 7th gen monte ss is rated at 303hp from the factory and there are a handful of guys out there that have them boosted with a turbo.

stearns81, you already have the engine for a 400hp car. Go turbo, get your transmission upgraded to HD and reinforced input shaft/hardened 4th clutch shaft/chrome moly pump shaft, HD axles (stage 2 from zzp) and an HD differential unit. Add an intercooler/meth injection/a good tune and you're onyour way. Your cost (aprox.): $4500-6000.

I agree with the others, forget the 4.3- too much labor to swap, just turbo your car, regardless of which engine you have now.

ok ok so maybe i guessed a little on the low side you caught me! but, i still stand by my main point: the 4.3L just isn't a practical swap

As everyone else said, the 4.3L is not the answer to more power for your car. Either drop in an L67, and mod that, or do a top swap on your 3800. Or as other have mentioned, turbo it.

my car is a daily drive but I want power and right now with the 3.8 its suppost to have 200hp but to slow even for my dead grandma. I had a 79 Z28 but lost it dew to my own stupidity ( kick my own *** ) I just like power and I like chevy. Plus this motor has 182000 miles.
