Default 3800 SC Swap

Whats going on MCF? I am new to this site but have been visiting for a while and decided to join and i have a few problems i wanted answers to as i am stuck.. I have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS I recently swapped a 3800 SC engine and trans from a 99 buick park ave. I did all the proper extending of the wires for the wire harness. I had the pcm from the park ave plugged in and my car wouldnt crank over so i put my old pcm back in and my car fired right up but it runs crappy. It wont stay running please help me with any info that you might have thanks in advance

The PCM from the Buick isn't programmed to your VIN or anything so it won't start the car.

And your tune on your stock PCM isn't set up to handle the swap.

Basically... you need a tuner

You can buy a canned tune, but getting your car properly tuned after something like an engine swap is pretty recommended...

I would just order one from Overkill Motorsports. Let Will know what you have done to the car (as far as the swap) and he will set up a computer for your car. Plus he can performance tune it for your setup.

any canned tune will get it running and drivable but not perfect. every car is a little different and needs its own custom tune for most performance etc.

I just finished installing a fully built L67 into my 2000 Monte. MY Canned PCM i ordered from intense-racing.com was actually very good. Those guys called me and we thory crafted over what my mods were and what mods i was putting into the car along with the swap and although i dont have my car on the street yet due to body work im doing now the car runs great on their tune. Id say starting there is a great platform but yes i will get the car to a tuner and allow a proffesional to tune my baby by hand with the cat in person eventually.
