Oh man, she's just breaking in.
On the plus side you're on the west coast...no snow, no rust!
If body and interior is well, I would keep her.
Post pics man, share with us.

Do you think changing the trans control solenoid will solve the the problem with the hard/bump when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear ? and would you happen to know where it is located?

It COULD be the culprit, but i'm no mechanic so I would hate to say yes and send you on a spending spree.
Here is a great read though. There are many in the community who swear by him.

Welcome to the site. As others have said fix it and keep it. Once it's fixed you should be good for a long time.

problem if its a solenoid a regularly shop is gunna $500-800 book time just to replace a $20 part. If i were you i would just buy a valve body with all new solenoids and find a shop that will do the replacement for a decent price. i had the same problem with my monte hard jerking shifts from 1st to 2nd and that was at 62k miles. 5k miles later my monte shifts just fine. Welcome to the site. I'd definitely get it fixed. As around and find a transmission shop that has a good reputation. I'd stay away from one of the national chains (AAMCO, etc.) and go with a local shop that has a long standing reputation for good work and backing their crap up.

I would fix this car so fast! lol but I would say def fix it especially for your daughter she will learn to love the Monte and all the things it offers! people dont realize that back in 2000 the monte carlo has all the bells and whistles of cars that are being made in this decade
