It definitely does not sound good. I'd recommend using a mechanics stethoscope and using that to listen to various parts of the car (a point on each head, perhaps underneath at the oil pan, if you can get safe access to the block).

I'm wondering if it's a valve/lifter problem (something within the head of the car) or is it an issue like suggested with a rod or rod bearing (which is lower in the car, hence listening at the oil pan may be of assistance).

OUCH! I'm not going to ***** foot around it, that motor has to come out, be rebuilt of snag one off Craigslist or from a junk yard,

Rod knock, chipped piston, deffiniatly some damage done there,

i'm not driving it at the moment, i parked it at my job and took one of the company cars for the time being... I was even thinking to just trade in, i know theres no cheap fix, you guys think I'm better off just trading it in? I love my monte I'm very sad to see it go

I Think the trade in value is gonna be really low. You are probably better off fixing it, is that an option financially? If so 3800 motors are pretty durable and they were in a lot of vehicles so finding a good running one should be easy.

That is ugly and not common for that engine. You will get nothing for a trade in on that and would be better finding a used engine to put in it.
