04 SS trans removal and install (at home)

Hello all. Just picked up a nice red 04 Monte SS from down south and heading back home to Michigan as we speak! I'll post a "hello" in the new member section when I get back home to Wolverine country. Just a quick question:
Has anyone been able to take out these transmissions at home without a hoist from the bottom? I have a 2001 Escape that I was able to squeeze out of the top (engine and trans together), even though all the manuals I read said you had to take the subframe out and get it out from the bottom. I just took off the front wheels and made the car sit as low as possible in the front to be able to get the drivetrain out and also be able to swing it out past the car and on the floor. I realize Fords and Chevys are like apples an oranges but was wondering if it was possible.
Thanks!
DH

I'm not sure getting it out from the top would be the best way to go. I do think dropping it out the bottom is very possible without a hoist tho. I used my Cherry picker to lift the front of my old van and it worked perfectly.

I've heard of a few local people doing it the same way
