Hi everyone... I just bought my '06 Monte SS about 6 weeks ago, hope to have some pics of it up soon. I have a question for those of you that have a sunroof. The top of my sunshade (looking down on it from outside with the roof tilted) looks like there is a thin layer of dust that has caked up on it and then someone took their thumbnail and scraped it all across the surface. I took it to the dealer to have them look and they said this is how it's supposed to be. Can anyone tell me if your's look this way also? I know this is petty of me, but I'm pretty **** when it comes to my cars!

yeah they have a layer of dust on them seems like all the time, I made a small tool to get in there to clean it up some, Still dont do the best job but at least it will keep some of the dust from building up to much, Im **** also but i have allergies and dust is one of my worst ones so i try to make sure the car dont have any in it that i will have to breath threw.

Sounds bad for a smoker to say but it is true,

To make the tool was not bad go get a peice of doll rod.
then you get one of the fom pain brushes they have out in the harware stores.
I then wood glued the handel of the sponge brush to the doll rod.

Now with the sunroof in the vent position i can get this down in there and clean acrossed the top of the sun shade with out damage to it,me, or the sunroof.
And also works great for getting in the hard to reach places when you want to get the car cleand up for a show.

 

Thanks for the tips - good idea! My problem is that the shade looks dirty, but in reality is not. If you were to try and clean it nothing would come off. The Chevy dealership that I bought it from sits right across from where they just got done building a new Wal-Mart and there was some crud on the outside window mouldings that they had to buff out because of it. I'm wonding if this could be caused by the same. The car sat on their lot for almost a year waiting for me to buy her. However, the car only had 35 miles on it so I'm assuming the roof was closed all that time and hopefully dirt did not get into it. Service said this is how it's supposed to look. Maybe I'm too picky? Na!

 

Have you tried mothers back to black? This usually does a good job of treating any rubber parts that are discolored. My rubber trim had the flecs of stuff on it as well, I had to get out some magic erasers to get that shtuff off. Then the gloss finish was gone and some back to black returned most of the gloss. Actually I think it looks better now semi-gloss than the regular old gloss did. I have some b4 and after pics but they're way too big for this forums 250k limit. If I could see the mark up close it would help, but I would say if back to black doesn't fix it, I noticed GM reccomends treating weatherstriping or rubber seals with silicone (di-electric) grease. That might be worth a try as well.
