Default Rim Cleaner?!?!

Alright guys i got a little problem here with my rims. My rims are black with an allumminum lip and im having a really hard time finding a product to clean them with.... i recently had a cleaner given to me by a friend that works for a rental car place.... and its the cleaner they use for thire cars so i tryed them ok my rims and wouldnt you know it when i hosed them down and wiped them off they had like a white resedue all over the black alum. and on my disk and calipers. So i try to wash it off but to my suprise it wouldnt come off no matter how hard i scrubed. So i grabed a bottle of metal polish my dad had and started at it. It worked and they were back to normal but now i have a real hard time getting them clean. Any suggestion on what cleaner to use?

After clening them, try using MOTHERS chrome and aluminum polish

it also depends if your rims are clear coated. if there clear coated then usually a rubbing compound or regular polish will work better than a metal polish. if you polish your car, try using some leftover polish on the rims and see if it cleans it better.

I've heard from someone else that a chrome and aluminum polish will remove the clearcoat and paint from rims. It's only good on real chrome rims.

So far I've only been using soap and water during washing. I'm afraid to experiment on these rims. The rims on my Pontiac were the "Chrome-Tec" plastic covered things. So I wasn't too worried about them. They were available everywhere cheap.

I clean mine by washing them with the soapy water I wash the car with, then I polish them using ClearKote Vanilla Moose wax, then I seal them with Chemical Guys JetSeal

Mothers is awesome. I used their wheel cleaners on my old riced-up CRX. I use their Back To Black for all my exterior trim on the Monte.

Now i dont have to worry about obsessing over those CRX rims, 17" stock LTZs cleaned with a tshirt rag FTW!
