Default Pin Stripes

I want to add pin stripe to the side of my '06 Monte. So it will have a little more incommon with my '86 LS.

Can anyone recommend a cleaner to wipe the body panels that won't harm the clear coat?

I've seen what some thinners do to clear coat on one of my other cars.

rubbing alcohol works best as it removes all dirt, wax, etc.

Thanks. Since I have no clue if the car's ever been waxed or not I don't want to pin stripe over something and have the tape come off.
