Default Removing baked on stuff off my paint

So I washed my car last night and after all the salt and dirt is gone I am left with this nasty hard dried up syrup looking stuff all over the front of my car. I need some suggestions on this to try to get this off. I used dryer sheets like somebody recommended for bugs on the headlights and that worked, but when I tried it on the paint it scratched it up (I only did a small test spot). I tried a degreaser and WD40 because I have had luck with them removing stuff before, but this time not so well. I wish I could discribe this stuff better, but its almost like hard tree sap or dried syrup but not sticky. Any ideas on how to get this off without doing any damage? PS the car is black

I don't believe there is a weather warning on the clay bar, you just have to keep the area wet while using it.

Also plan to spends a few hours, that might want you to stay out of the cold with it...

So I did the clay bar this weekend and it did get some of the major stuff off but there are still some small spots of this crap on my car. I can chip it off with my finger nail very very very slowly but that is scratching the paint. There are about 200 of these spots on the hood. Any ideas on what to do/try next?

lol, you have to keep folding and flipping the clay bar as soon as you see dirt on it or it WILL scratch. i would have taken it to a detail shop and asked them. i dont really understand all the sap.

did you go through the woods, or not wash your car for a year???

I don't know what "ON" is off the top of my head, but if it's anything like Sacramento California... I will feel your pain come summer time.

Black car + second most populous city in terms of trees = sap = me not parking my black car in the shade

I spent a little more time with the clay and it got a little more off but there is small specks of this stuff left. Its almost like the texture of a clear hard epoxy. I have found a way to get it off but its extremely time consuming because of how many specks there are. If I leave the car in the sun to warm up then spray some Ulitmate Quick Detailer on it I can chip off the stuff with my finger nail and it doesn't damage the paint. Thanks for all the suggestions and if anyone has any ideas how to get this off quicker please let me know!
