One of my co-workers has a set of rims with a non-clear coat gloss white rims. He needs to clean the stuck on black brake dust residue and oxidation & I'm clueless on what to use....

I would try the Simple green and light agitation with a brush. If that does not work, a product I have used on ANY wheels (cast aluminum, clear coated, chromed hub caps) with great success is the Eagle One Aluminum Mag Cleaner (I believe it has a disclaimer not to use it on clear coated or painted wheels, but it's worked GREAT in the past for me). I quit using it as my regular product as Simple Green is more environmentally friendly and just a less harsh of a chemical. BUT, in those situations when all else fails, I brake out the Eagle One cleaner.
FYI - If you go with the Eagle One, it MUST be the Aluminum Mag cleaner (I've used the other Eagle One cleaners, not nearly as effective).
