Buffing Question

because it makes more of a mess. i use it if i have deep scratches or something but most of the time compound isnt necessary. i buff cars everyday at work and just find it easier to not mess with compound if i dont have to.

Rubbing compounds can be harsh on the clear coat. Some good scratch remover like Mother's or Maguires is safe to use. I used wht I thought was a mild rubbing compound on a car once took the clear coat right off.

Agreed compounds way to harsh for modern clear coats.
There is polishes that can remove minor scratches and not harm your clear coat.
This is what I use when I do a detail.
Adam's Severe Swirl Remover Polish

Agree with everyone on rubbing compund. There are some very fine polishing compunds that are applied with a buffer that you could try. However, I would try a good wax like Maguirs Ultimate or NXT-2, I have used the latter on my Monte and the wife's G6 this summer after using Gold Class the past couple of years, and it does a great job. If you are still not happy with the results, it's easy enough to strip the wax and try polishing it.
