Chevrolet Performance at HOT ROD Power Tour 2014
Power Tour 2014 is Presented by Chevrolet Performance and Driven by Continental Tire

Chevrolet Performance has been a part of the Hot Rod Power Tour for years. They always bring a fleet of customized vehicles, a whole bunch of crate engines to drool over, and their Motor Medics have been known to save the day for dozens of Power Tour participants each year. This year the Chevrolet display shows off what they offer from the factory to satisfy the gearhead consumer, but also what’s possible to build using their LS-based crate engines.
The centerpiece for Chevrolet’s display is this ’88 Monte Carlo SS. Completely rebuilt from the ground up to debut on Power Tour 2014, the G-body now uses an LS376/525 engine and a T-56 transmission. That’s the hot cam version of the 6.2L LS3 that’s good for 525hp and more than 450lb-ft of torque.
The increase in power let to a beefed up 12-bolt and an updated suspension with huge Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric2 275/30ZR19 front and 295/35ZR19 rear tires. We really like all of the custom touches on the car, including the billet aluminum honeycomb grille.
You can’t have a Chevrolet display without trucks, and Chevrolet brought one of our favorite SEMA 2013 builds in this ’78 K10 short bed. The truck was resto-modded to look completely stock on the exterior and interior only to reveal a 320hp 5.3L E-ROD crate engine and 4L70E transmission under the hood.
The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 Volunteer Firefighter concept was built to honor the nation’s many volunteer first responders. The truck has a custom aluminum brush guard and bed rails and a full complement of firefighting tools and equipment in the bed.
The 2014 Silverado Rally Edition has unique black 6-spoke wheels, side steps, and a color-matched grille surround.
We had an opportunity to drive one of Chevrolet’s new SS sport sedans late last year. It’s got LS3 power, a sporty suspension, and an awesome interior. If you need to have four doors but want to still have fun, this is the ride for you.
The Stingray has been a huge success for Chevrolet, so it was no surprise that they’d have a couple with them on the Power Tour. Both an Atlantic Edition and a Pacific Edition were available for participants to explore inside and out.
A trio of Camaros rounded out the Chevrolet display, with an LS7-powered black on black Indy 500 Pace Car Z/28, a 580hp ZL1 convertible, and an SS 1LE coupe with its race-proven suspension.
