Default Trying to help my son

Hello All, I'm trying to help my son. He has a 96 M/C le.

question- Does this model have a Anti-theft system? (starter kill switch) if so any info, please.

The other day his car just quit, found no starter. Replaced new starter, with key nothing. Jumping starter gets it to entergize but will not turn over motor! Had new starter checked, it's ok. So back to square one.

Thanks Rick

Hi Rick, your son is lucky to have a father to help him.
Your model has a Pass Key II System.
When you replaced the starter, was there any metal
partials around the teeth of the starter ?
If not, it could be a bad pass code key
(Clean key with mild dish soap, dry & try : )
Below are some links for infor ` Good Luck, `Space
The 1996 Monte Carlo is available in two models - LS and Z34 coupes. ... Scotchgard Fabric protection, Pass-Key II theft deterrent system, ...

GM Vehicles:

Most GM vehicles are equipped with one of two different technologies for their factory anti-theft systems, the PassKey or the PassLock system.

PassKey System:
$30.00 Installed
This system began to be used in 1986 and is still used on some current models today. This system simply has a coded resistor embedded in the metal portion of the key, which sends a signal to the vehicle allowing the motor to crank. It's easy to determine if your vehicle is equipped with this system. Look at your ignition key and see if you have a black chip on the metal portion of the key. (refer to the picture below for reference) If your vehicle is equipped with the PassKey system, then an additional part is required in order for the motor to start by remote.

PassKeyIII System: $75.00 Installed
This system began to be used in 1997 and became widely used by 2000. This system simply has a coded transponder embedded in the plastic portion of the key, which sends a signal to the vehicle allowing the motor to start. It's easy to determine if your vehicle is equipped with this system. Look at your ignition key and see if PK3 is engraved on the on the metal by the plastic, then you have the PassKey III system. If your vehicle is equipped with the PassKey III system, then an additional part is required in order for the motor to start by remote.

This system was introduced in 1995 on some vehicles and has progressively been used more and more, where it is found on a good majority of GM passenger vehicles. This system is standard on all 1998 and up GM trucks and SUVs. The PassLock system does not use the key pictured above. The best way to determine if your v

Jeremy, just wait until you receive the high command position as
a MCF Moderator,& see `if you can control `Space.
There's a lot of `Space out there, & he spreads it everywhere
He does seem to leave a toilet paper trail : )
`It's so difficult to control a SpaceDriver, when he'sout ofcontrol : )
