Default Wheel hub assembly

How do I know if I need plastic or metal clip without looking at it? Crappy weather no garage. 2001 3.4 both are available for purchase and say they fit. Advance Auto.

If I am reading the descriptions right, it looks like you should be able to determine which one you need by reading the RPO codes on the drivers door. I highlighted the RPO codes in bold.

ACDELCO Part # FW293 {#88964168}
HUB,FRT WHL(W/WHL SPD SEN) 2ND DESIGN; WITH PLASTIC SENSOR WIRE W/CLIP, FOR 1ST DES SEE 12429204; 2 DOORS; w/BRAKE,HD DISC/DISC(JA9) or BRAKE,LT WGT,DISC/DISC(JB9) or FRT & RR DISC ANTILOCK BRK(JL9); LH AND RH

ACDELCO Part # 2017 {#07470017, 12429204}
HUB KIT,FRT WHL 1ST DESIGN; WITH STAINLESS STL SENSOR WIRE SPRING CLIP, FOR 2ND DES SEE 88964168 OR FW128; 2 DOORS; w/BRAKE,LT WGT,DISC/DISC(JB9) or FRT & RR DISC ANTILOCK BRK(JL9); LH OR RH, INCLS BEARING, MTG BOLTS, SENSOR

The clincher seems to be the JA9 code which necessitates the plastic clip 2nd design.

Since you don't have JA9, the HD brakes, you can actually get either one, as the other 2 braking packages are compatible with either part.

You could probably use the AC Delco part number and find a Timken assembly online for cheaper. That's what I did when I replaced the left front hub assembly on my 2005.
