Default What offset on aftermarket rims?

What offset do you have on your aftermarket rims? I hate seeing people w/incorrect offsets, it looks horrible. I don't want to be one of them so what offset should I go with?

I am running a 20 by 8.5 with a 42mm offset and my car is dropped and they tuck real nice with no rubbing and no spacers

I have pretty much figured that I'll be going with 17's or 18's, latter being preferred. So what would be the correct offset to get, figuring the wheels will be 7" wide?

I run my own customizing business so i get them at cost but they would normally run about 2000 for rims and tires.

I would go with an offset no less than 35mm and no more than 40mm especially with a 7in wide rim
