need help with finding struts

ok I have seen stock struts for sale. I am in now in the market on looking for struts all the way around. what are the good type than the stock fe2 type that the ls has. I would like to get a good rounded type that helps stiffen the ride as well as springs if I am there why not replace every thing there than go back and replace another item. but my main thing where would I start to look again to get a good set. I am not looking to lower my monte but more of help stiffen it.

Ballsteins I hear are good OEM replacements. I havent gotten to that point yet, mine are solid as a rock,.

Bilstein (^what he means) is probably the best quality strut available but they're a bit pricey and you'll definitely pay for them. My 06 is lowered and I'm running HD-Series Bilsteins; they're worth every penny in my opinion.

KYB also makes a decent strut. AGX is their high-end sport strut with gas adjustable ride quality. They also make a few different series of struts.

Obviously Monroe too but theirs are more along the lines of OE factory replacements so you won't get any increased stiffness.

What model # Bilsteins Matt?

Slugger088 12-17-2013 02:40 PM

Mel,

You need part # 35-153153 for the Front Struts and 35-153160 for the Rear Struts.

Good luck. It will look way better with no wheel gap.

I'm definitely happy with these. I am having a slight problem with my front passenger strut. I think it may be the strut top bearing which may have been damaged during the summer when I hit a pot hole in the Great State of Indiana.

I was getting a clunking noise from the right passenger side when I would almost turn my steering right almost to lock. I have had it inspected and the strut mount looks a tad different that my front driver side, so its possible I damaged something slightly. I have a warranty on the struts so my mechanic buddy is going to see what he can do for me. If I cant get a new one or new pair with the warranty, I will be buying them again.

Yes, part #'s Matt mentioned; those numbers are for Bilstein's Heavy-Duty series strut. These are direct replacements to the factory struts, however they do not come as full assemblies (i.e. no spring, upper strut mount, etc.). Wasn't an issue for me since I went with lowering springs anyway. There's also a few components (lower and upper rubber spring seats) that need to be swapped over from the factory struts. What you see in the pictures below is what comes when ordered.

No I doubt any of those chain auto parts stores would stock or even carry the Bilsteins. If I remember correctly I checked local with O'Reilly's and Advance and they didn't have them, at least not the HD Series. The HD's are more of an upgrade premium strut and your typical chain stores seem to only stock and deal with direct OE replacement parts. Specialty parts usually requires looking to specialty suppliers; I ordered mine through a private auto store/supplier here in Michigan and received them within two days. Also available through Summit Racing.
