The plastic covers unscrew (there are threads on the outside of the lug nut) just like the lug nut does. When you put them back on using some threadlock will prevent them from coming loose. Don't tighten them too tight or the (plastic) threads may strip and/or they will crack. Don't know if chrome would look good or not. Depends on the wheels...

Use a 3/4" socket and they will come right off. Be gentle but firm when reinstalling your new chrome covers. I dont even use a ratchet, just a 8"extension with the socket and a snug firm final turn. Lock-tite on the threads?? Maybe, never done that, could be a trick, I would only use a dot of it.

That's why when I had them on my car I only put them on finger tight and used threadlock to prevent them from coming loose.
