Default Lowering Springs

Hey guys long time no talk lol I've been busy with work, school and fixing computers. Anyways, I want to pick up some lowering springs for the monte. I'm looking at a set that lowers 1.7"fr and 1.5"r ...which is where I would like it, but the front spring rate it 450 lbs/in and the rear is 250 lbs/in ...is that a good rate? I can't find what the Eibach's are and the Sprint performance springs don't have any rates showing but are advertised at "20-25% stiffer than stock". Little help here please? I plan on keeping my stock shocks for a while, until I can cough up the dough for new ones (couple months). Is 450 lbs/in in the front to much?

**But the 450 lbs/in springs also say that the drop height and rate vary by vehicle load (I don't put anything in my trunk weight worthy other than my spare, jack and tire iron, front is just the engine and me lol )

You'll want to get a few more things if you put drop springs in shorter dog bones, anti logo washers ect, you may even have to make a bump steer kit becuase it will change the geometry in the steering

Honesly I'd just spend the Monte a buy them done, just unbolt and bolt back in new stuts and everything to lower it

higher the number = stiffer, I'd say for the front 450 is good.

I agree with justin, otherwise i'd say don't cheap out on it because you won't like the ride.

Lowering springs on stock struts, especially if they're old = no go, stock struts aren't meant for springs, this is why 99% of civics ride like crap

Yes I know, those items are among of what I'm going to buy. I just needed to know if the spring rate was good lol I don't have the high money income to spend on a $700 set of shocks and spring combo, or a coilover. Stock shocks are temporary.

As said in main post lol the shocks are temp, If I don't like the ride I'll just swap the springs out and wait till I get new shocks. Monte's are not civics, that said, it doesn't mean they'll ride like them lol I guess those springs are a go then! ...oh, any springs do have a tendency to sag after the "wear-in" period yes? How much would you say? 1/2"?

Just remember though, if you put them in and don't like them and swap them back out, that's 2 alignments at $50 a pop at least.

Also, I know Monte's aren't Civics, that doesn't mean they won't ride like one when the suspension is done wrong though, they're heavier which means the results would probably ride worse than that of a civic.

Also yes, they have a wear-in period where they sag, they usually don't lower to the listed height until they sag from what I understand

Do you own a spring compressor?

I would wait and do it all at once. Since you think it is temporary anyway, just put the money aside and buy the drop-in kit.

I do not, no. I would be renting a spring compressor. Putting the money aside would just take me 1 year to get to be able to buy them. Although, I most likely would be having them sit on the side and then buying new shocks when the money comes.

I say do it all in one shot. Modifying should never be done cheaply just to do it.

If you have to rent the spring compressor, then put the lowering springs on, then possibly have to get adjustments made, then save for new struts, then compress the old springs off, then put the new on, then possibly have adjustments made, not worth it.
