Default loud thump when going over rough roads.

My 2004 Dale Jr car makes a loud thumping sound that you can feel under your feet when going over a big bump or very rough roads. Could this be the front struts or could this be the engine cradle coming loose like that other thread that was posted.? Anyone else ever hear any noise like that that you could feel? I'm going to put it up on some ramps soon and see if I can see anything.

check your front and rear sway bar links the rubber tends to wear out fast over time. find the police packedge links for the malibu they use they are a better quality i replaced mine at 60k because i go over some rough roads getting home when i replaced mine on my 07 i noticed a better response in handeling as well fewer vibrations from the road. i for got the part number i know our body style share alot of simularity exept for the power train.

that made me laugh to myself. now to the op, i agree about the struts going bad. try to bounce each strut on each corner a few times to see how they respond, you will know then which one is going out

Wearing a seatbelt? Your head may be hitting the headliner.

I would agree that a strut is going bad.

I haven't had time to mess with it lately. The weather has been cold and snowy so I haven't even driven the monte in a couple of weeks. If it is the struts, what are the best replacements, especially since I have the FE4 suspension.

I'm having the suspension checked out Tuesday after the intake manifold gasket is replaced. I really haven't had any problems. I suspected the intake gasket was leaking when I first looked at the car and negotiated a lower price because of it. I knew the steering shaft was making noise when I bought it. I didn't test drive it over rough roads so I didn't hear any unusual noises coming from the suspension.
