Default FE3 vs. FE4 Suspension

Well I have looked around and cannot get a good answer. What is the difference between the FE3 and FE4 suspension. Thicker front and rear sway bars and meatier shocks? That reason I ask is I am about to buy the KYB quick struts that are basically the GR-2 pre-assembled with all the components and coil springs BUT they say (Excl. special handling package) Would you consider both the FE3 and FE4 special handing packages?

Maybe this will help?

FE3 & FE4: Impala SS models receive a FE3 suspension, and the Monte Carlo SS gets a FE4 suspension. Both suspensions are designed to provide a sporty ride that complements the 5.3L V-8's performance through increased stiffness and ride control, with reduced body lean and greater high-speed stability. They share similar specifications, including:

The Monte Carlo SS's FE4 suspension has the same architecture and components as the FE3, but has different struts that are tuned for a firmer ride and more body control.
Front 34-mm hollow stabilizer bar and rear 18-mm solid stabilizer bar provide more roll control than the FE1 or FE2 packages.
Standard 18-inch W-rated P235/50R18 AL3 (performance) Goodyear Eagle RS-A radial tires and wheels.

That actually helps a TON! That answered two questions I had. So actually the GMPP kit does NOT have a solid front sway bar it's 34MM Hollow! That makes an important desicion for me since Dorman (of all people) make a solid front sway bar. So buy the rear GMPP bar the Dorman front and you would have solid bars front and back. That also helps me choose between the GR-2 or AGX now I guess I will go with the KYB AGX. Thanks man! Where did you find that?

2004 and 2005 Supercharged Monte Carlos also have the FE4 suspension. There is some difference in the rear strut so you can run the 17 inch wheel and tire combo. If you try to put a 17 wheel and tire off of a 2004-5 Supercharged SS on a FE2 or FE3 strut it will rub the cup where the spring sits on the rear of the car. I just bought 4 GR2 for FE4 suspension last week. KYB just started making them for FE4 suspension. $297 for all 4 struts

So there are two types of GR-2 struts now?

KYB part numbers for FE4 struts are 339015 for front struts and 339148 for the rear struts. SO I guess there are 2 GR2 struts. Ones for FE2 and ones for the FE4 Suspension. Here is a link that might help you out.

Thanks! I was actually considering the AGX but maybe I can just save some money and go with those instead.

Funny how they only offer the better GR-2 Struts if you put in 2004 Monte. When I put 2002 Monte they don't even show up on the list. They will fit though right? There shouldn't be any difference as far as installing them? I am running 17" Konig rims.

No problem. Searched google, hit a couple of results and found it here, http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...06/000272.html
