7th Gen ('06-'07): Coilovers Vs Lowering springs
Which one? I see alot of the new Gen camaros using coilovers when they ride with 22s, or even 20s, and they are lowering their cars. I know it would work for our montes as well, atleast 7th gen, but Would you guys prefer coil overs or lowering springs?
Im not sure I really understand the difference between the two though, rather than from what people say, coilovers are more stable with aftermarket rims, esp when going bigger rims.
I've dealt only with lowering springs. Honestly I haven't seen much in terms of coilovers for our cars in the first place.
Coilovers are basically a coil spring over a shock (not strut) which is where the name comes from. Most coilovers, if not all, I've seen are completely pre assembled whereas lowering springs typically are purchased separate and installed on struts.
I would assume the reasoning behind going with coilovers when dealing with larger diameter wheels/tires is that coilovers don't have the large lower spring seat that struts use for the coil spring to sit on. Coilovers are more tightly compacted along their axis.

Thanks matt, I was hoping I could get some of your view on this. So im assuming because the camaro, somewhat uses a bigger wheel base, is the reason why most people would use coilovers on the new Gen camaros when using aftermarket rims, talking 22s mainly. So basing judgement off of that, if I were to use 22s, coilovers wouldnt be a bad idea, but using lowering springs would probably benefit me more if I used stock wheels?
I wonder how much of a difference between the wheel bases of our 7th gens is the wheel base of the new Gen camaros...I was reading the forum and almost all the guys on the camaro forum, who rides with 22 inch rims, uses coilovers.

Matt (Slugger088) is lowered on the exact same setup I'm running (Bilstein HD-Series struts w/Canuck lowering springs) and, unlike me, he's running aftermarket 20x8's, I believe, with no issues between the tire/strut assembly. Obviously I'm still running the stock wheels and P235/50R18 tire size.

They are actually 8.5's. No issues.
