Clear Coat on 18" SS Wheel Damaged by Midas

So I had a nail in my tire and took it to Midas to have it patched. The dumba** working there did this to my wheel:

How can I get this fixed before it peels and gets rusty/corroded and stuff?

Problem one, you went to Midas instead of a tire place.

Problem two, you left without yelling at them to fix it.

Looks like you may have to get a tire shop to resurface it if it bothers you that much.

This

I'm ghetto so I'm going to suggest touch up paint.

Umm I called and tomorrow the manager will be meeting with me. I didn't notice until I got home. Secondly, the tire shop I went to wouldn't fix it even though it was in the tread pattern and was an easy patch - they wanted to sell me a new tire.

I guess tire shop near you really doesn't want real business lol.

Is it possible there was a wheel weight there before because it looks kinda like corrosion in the pic. Just a thought and good luck getting it repaired.

say. . . is that tire a radial tubeless by chance? lol :) :)

Nope, these wheels don't have any weights on the outside of them. They are balanced on the inner part of the wheel only.

Best idea EVER!! nothing threw off a nice shiney wheel like a big ol' balance weights.

Maybe your rim was getting a bubble there because of the corrosion that looks to be there, and the guy fixing your tire popped it or scratched it off to make it more visible? Some people just don't have any respect for other's cars.

If you can't get them to fix it or help pay for it, I'm with Enzo on the touch up paint. Sand it down a bit and paint over it. It's small enough you'll hardly notice.

One of my wheels had a deep scratch across one of the spokes. It was like this when I bought it. What I did was cleaned it out with some prep-sol and used some duplicolor touch up clear coat on it. It has been through two winters and is still not spreading. You can definitely see it, but it isn't getting any worse.
I recommend cleaning yours up first with a little with some 400 grit sandpaper just because it looks a little oxidized.

I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not lol but anyways I love the clean look of no ugly weights on the sides causing corrosion and all that crap.

bama_z34 08-12-2011 10:54 PM

you could always plasti-dip them lol :P never gotta worry about them getting scratched

NovaSS369 08-12-2011 11:43 PM

I will be plastidipping them before winter!

Don't! what a waste of good looking wheels! Just keep em clean in the winter :( I know you can peel plastidip off but i've heard it's not a breeze to get it all off.

Get your mind out of the gutter!

whalerghost 08-22-2011 08:12 AM

I don't think you have to worry about those rims rusting. I believe they are Aluminum Alloys. They won't rust. I think you should just try and hide that blemish the best you can, and if you are not satisfied with the results call your local junk yard and see if you can get a replacement.
