buying tires over the internet
Just wondering how many of you have bought tires over the internet from a site like TireRack.com or another online tire site? What was the experience like? Did you have any trouble getting the tires put on your car once you received them?
Maybe I'm just old school, but I can't really see trying to stuff 4 tires into the back of my Monte, then bringing them to a shop and asking them to mount, balance and align these tires that I didn't buy from that shop. It just doesn't seem like it would go very smoothly.

I bought my rims from tirerack.com and had the local Firestone mount/balance the tires that were on my factory wheels. They originally wouldn't, saying "We don't mount used tires." I showed them my reciept for the tires I purchased at a different Firestone (2 weeks earlier) and they relented. I imagine that a used tire store would do it with less hassle. Also, I believe that on the website, tirerack lists specific installers in your region that can install their products. Good luck!

OK, but where did you go to get them mounted/balanced/aligned? Did you get hassled because you didn't buy the tires there?

Go to a place with your price quote and have them match it, if you would feel better that way.
A lot of times when you order tires through them, and they include the mounting and balancing for free, you come out ahead.
