Default Brake Job needed, but which one?

So my car badly needs brakes. I've not noticed any difference in how well they perform, but lately I've been babying them, hoping they'll last long enough till I can get the money for this brake job. I had a brake inspection done and they said the front brake rotors and pads look really bad, they need to be replaced soon, but I have a little while left on my rears. He told me 5-10% on my fronts, 20% on the rears. (whatever that means). The dealership was going to charge me $486 for a full brake rotor and brake pad job, labor, tax, all included. This seemed high, so I went to a local garage that usually offers cheaper prices. He quoted me $370 for just the front brakes! $650 if you add the rears to it. But he claims the brake pads he uses are the highest quality available, and will last the life of the vehicle, and provide virtually no brake dust. I'm getting the brakes done next Friday no matter what, but do you think brake pads that will last the life of the vehicle are worth it? Or should I go to the dealer and have them slap on some cheapo pads and rotors for half the cost?

i would buy the rotors and pads from brakemotive on ebay. everybody on my other forum raves about it and the guy is supposed to be cool. he has the rotors and pads for my car for like 215. then you can do it yourself. its not hard to do.

I bought from brakemotive...powerslot D/S rotors for front and back, and powerslot evolution ceramic pads for $200.50 with FREE shipping.

I would do the brake job yourself...saves lots of money.

And I think anyone that claims pads are good for the life of the vehicle is full of crap. That really is not possible, eventually they will wear out.

This brake motive on ebay really helps, I found a place where I can get 4 ceramic brake pads, then drilled&slotted rotors all for $180. There is however, ONE thing that concerns me. On the 2000-2005 Monte Carlo, they use 12 inch disc brakes for the front, and 10 inch discs on the back. Nowhere at all on here does it say the dimensions, it just says it will eqiup all 2000-2004 Monte Carlo's. Can anyone confirm I will get the 12 inch discs and not all 10 inchers?

you can always go to r1concepts.com get some slotted rotors front and rear with some Hawk HPS pads.

It's a little more expensive but they are great rotors and THE best pads. (IMO)

I wondered the samething when I bought mine...mine said for ALL 06-07 Monte Carlo's including SS...

I bought them from brakemotive, and they are infact the correct rotors and pads...So I would say you should be alright.

Mike is right too, the R1concepts rotors are really nice too, and Hawk pads are excellent. I've also had VERY good luck with the EBC Green Stuff pads before on more than one car...

But the powerslot rotors and pads that you get from brakemotive are good quality too. I was very happy with the rotors when I saw them, and you just can't beat the price.

If you decide to go with the R1concept rotors, and buy seperate pads, I would go for the Hawk or EBC pads for sure...

AEM used to make discs, though i dont know if they still do it. They used to do brake kits, but i dont think they make full kits anymore...but i havent really looked.again, there are companies like racingbrake that make a crapload of different application, so hit them up, if they dont have it, they CAN. _______________________________________Website I designed for payday loans in toronto company.

I wouldn't put R1's again- lots of 5th gen guys have had problems with them, and from what I remember, the rotors were thinner in some areas- just like many of the real cheap parts store replacements. You get what you pay for when it comes to brakes.
