Default 72' Tire and wheel fit dilema

Can anyone tell me what will fit (and fill the wells) on my 72'? It has been lowered 2" as well...I want to go as large as possible without rubbing.

it all depends on what look youre going for. ive seen street race set ups on the first gens running 275s and wider on 15s. since the car is dropped im going to say youre going to want to take some very precise measurements of what space you have and watch your backspacing.

I had 245/60/15 BFG on the front and 275/50/15 BFG on the rear of my 72 Monte. Front had 15x8" rallys and rear had 15x10" rallys. Not lowered, but had air lift shocks on the rear. Had to keep it fairly firm in the rear to handle the bumps with the 275s. Yes, the Chevelle was mine too...

very nice. love 72 montes. some day ill get one. do you remember what kind of backspacing you were running? i know the 1st gens are very different from the 3rd gens. i run 8" prostars on mine and with the 3.50" backspacing with a 275 its a tight fit but no rub or sticking out.

I believe they were 5.5" BS front & rear. Pretty sure. The problem is the stainless steel trim around the wheel well. It sticks into the well too far and will cut a tire like a razor blade. My friend bought the Monte back from me and has since trimmed the wheel well trim at the top. He still has the same wheels & tires on the car with no rubbing issues.

Thank you! I still find it hard to believe that they were both mine at one point...more Chevelle/Monte Carlo eye candy:

i had to do the same thing on my cutlass. the trim extended real far into the quarter panels. the 8.5" wheel with 3.5 backspacing and 275s would rub on it on hard bump if i had someone sitting in the back. that quarter of an inch on both sides of the wheel really caused fitment issues over the 8" wheel with the same back spacing. thats why i suggested the op really measure everything.

Agreed...Especially since the car has been lowered.

Measure both wheel wells for clearance. Measure again to make sure.

2006 Silver those are both gorgeous cars. I love orange cars. I also love the stance the Monte has.
