2005 SS/SC OEM 17" Rim/Tire Question
Hey guys! My first post here. I just bought (today) a 2005 MC SS SC used in LA. This is now our second MC SS. I also have a 2001 MC SS that the wife drives. I searched about a 100 post looking for this answer and didn't find one so here it is.
I do plan on getting new wheels for it but tires are more important now since i discovered the car has to brands on it. the tires are new but not happy with make or model of said tires. So in the trash they go. They are 235/55/17's and of course i want the widest that we can run on the OEM wheels. So guys, what is the widest tire I can run on the OEM Wheels??
Plan to do many mods to it, as my research has turned up a lot of info here. I look forward to interacting with everyone in the future.

Im willing to help as much as i can for ya as long as your not the D.O.T. bear LOL
as faras the tires go you can get 60's under it with out a issue. and the 17" wheels limit you to that.
As faras tires go the falkens i have under mine with 18" wheels seem ok but i havent really pushed them hard for fear of sliding. for some reason they dont feel as good as the B.F. Groodrich radial T/A's that i had under it before.
but had to change rims and tires after the deer tryied to run me over.
im sure there are a few diffrent opions around here.so im sure you will get good info on here.

That is the width of the tires You said you had 235/55/17. They mean 235/60/17.
If i am not mistaken the 235 is the Height next number 60 is the width and then obviosly the rim size.
Hope that helps

RE: 2005 SS/SC OEM 17" Rim/Tire Question
235 is the width in mm, the 55 is the aspect ratio of the 235 in height or 55% of 235mm and the 17 is the rim size.
So i need to know how wide of a tire i can run before hitt the strut using the OEM wheel. I am thinking 245mm but wanted to know is anyone else here is running a wider tire now.

Hey according to www.discounttire.com 255/50/17 is the widest tire available on the 17" rim. It has a nice profile being the aspect ratio of 50. Also, according to the same website, you are only looking at5 tires available that THEY stock. Check with different tire stores though.
www.bfgoodrich.com has g-force T/A KDWS tires
www.coopertires.com doesn't have this size
www.goodyear.com doesn't have this size
www.discounttire.com has Kumho Ecsta SPT, Kumho Ecsta ASX, Kumho Ecsta STX, BF GOODRICH G-Force T/A KDWS, Yokahama ADVAN ST
www.falkentire.com has Ziex S/TZ01
I hope this helps, good luck!

If you are planning on lowering, I strongly suggest against a 255 tire, though some have done it without issues, they are AWFULLY close to rubbing the fender and/or the strut.
In addition to that, you're going to havemore of sidewall flex, because your contact surface will be 2cm (almost an inch) wider than your rim width...

As far as brand of tire... I switched 2 years ago from the stock Eagle RSAs to the Michelin Pilot A/S, stock size... amazing grip, good life, and excellent in the rain. I paid a premium for them, but I take care of them, and should get another 2 seasons out of them easy.

Michelin definitely makes a great tire. I had RS-A's on my car until I put Kumho tires on it. I'm not a real big fan of the RS-A's, I just don't like their ride. As far as tire size, yeah a 255 is avery large tire, I agree with that...245's might look nice. Either way, any tire that is put on that car will look nice. )
