Monte Update
 

Hey everyone, been a long time since i've done enough stuff to the monte to warrant a thread. I've had plans since i bought the car to add some more power and i finally got there, kind of.

I got a zzp plog, zzp ceramic coated crossover and zzp 3" catted downpipe, as well as a 3.6" supercharger pulley and dyno tune. I already had a cold air intake and a muffler delete. Also got a gauge pod pillar with an air/fuel gauge, boost gauge and aeroforce interceptor.

May not be the gains you hoped for, but still pretty nice!! Happy to see you finally got these goodies on! The question is, what does the ol' Butt-Dyno tell you? Does it feel like you gained some power?

Certainly feels like it gained power and i'm going to order a smaller pulley soon and see how it responds. Guy said he'd retune for free if i change things. The extra exhaust flow kind of negated me trying to increase boost.

Very cool to see you getting into the performance side of things!

Keep in mind a free flowing exhaust, heads, cam will lower boost pressure but create nice power gains even with "less" boost. That in return let's you drop pulley size to get more boost and bring pressure up for even more gains. Porting the supercharger will also increase boost pressure. (Most people think porting the blower lowers boost pressure but it does not)

Boost pressure is a measurement of flow restriction in the engine, less restriction= more power potential.

This is why I laugh when people go how much boost you runming? Then when they are told and it's a high boost number they instantly think it's fast, it could be but it also could not be.

Example:
stock car boost psi say is 10
Stock car with 3.4 pulley=12
Headers with 3.4=10
Headers with 3.2=12
Each step will increase power even though boost pressure drops per say. (Boost numbers are not accurate and you can never run a 3.2 with just headers either, that was example only!!)

I learned all that with this experience. The tuning guy explained this to me and it makes sense, i just got a 3.4" pulley and i'll get it on when i have a warm day to work. I forgot to post the dyno sheet, but while its not making alot more boost or power, the power comes sooner and stronger. Hopefully the next pulley drop will get me somewhere.

The pulley will help for sure, just make sure you scan for kr and get retuned before making a pull with the new pulley. Keep us posted :)

Got an aeroforce to watch for kr and the shop has offered to retune for free if i change something so i'll be back eventually.

Got the 3.4" pulley on today along with a fresh belt. Car seems to run quite well with little to no knock. Also have a set of colder plugs coming and then i'll be back to the shop for a retune.

Awesome, just be easy on it until you retune. Keep us posted on the gains!!

I slowly worked my way to full today and still not much knock, saw 2 degrees once and otherwise it was usually under 1, plugs and retune should have that covered.

Kr isn't bad at all for not being tuned, still for sure have it checked though. Hopefully the smaller pulley/ increased boost get you happy with power you want.

What are you wanting to make power wise anyway?

No idea really, my goal was a 3.4 pulley but if the gains are like last time i'm not really getting anywhere.

Well both of your pics are not showing up for me on your first post so I'm not sire what your car made before the mods were done. Don't look for massive gains though, maybe another 10whp and I bet that's about it.

To get around 300whp you will need to be intercooled, 1.9 rockers or cam, 3.0 pulley, headers, etc. A guy I know has this setup and made around 315whp

It made 207wheel with just a cold air intake and then 216 wheel with the exhaust mods and 3.6 pulley but it didn't gain much boost.

If I had to guess I am gonna say 220-225whp with the 3.4 on a semi aggressive but safe tune. You will see another nice jump in torque though is my guess.

Another problem with these cars is the sc makes tons of heat, the quicker you spin it (smaller pulley) the more heat it makes. As air temps get warmer it starts pulling timing to prevent kr but in return pulls hp as well. You are seeing nice torque gains as torque comes in quick and before heat soak, peak hp comes up top and that's where you are heat soaked so not seeing as high of gains. Next mod for you would be investing in a nice intercooler if you want to continue modding or going e85 is the other option :)

Either way the torque gains will make it feel way more "push you into the seat" and will help you get moving quicker down low, the top end will feel a little stronger but you will see where it feels to sorta "die off" and at that point is when your getting heat soaked.

Side note, on that dyno what gear is he doing pulls in? And when he goes wot on the dyno is the car downshifting? He should be locking the trans in 3rd to prevent the downshift via hpt and not letting it upshift either. Shifting on a dyno makes numbers way off most of the time.

Not sure on the gear, but i believe it downshifts before he makes the pull.

Should never downshift on a dyno run. Either way, keep us posted I'm curious to see new numbers with the 3.4!

New dyno run, 221hp and 268 torque. Just doesn't seem to gain hp, just torque.

What's the charge temps? If he is datalogging these runs ask him if it's pulling timing do to the air getting hot because of the supercharger. Maybe time to intercooler it or meth to keep temps down to increase timing and make power
