We are not sure what we are going to do when its built..the whole exhaust system is going to need replacing, its rotting from the inside out...we may keep it for a bit after its done.

And not only will I be the one person with 2 jrs, but this will make the 4th jr car in port jefferson station, ny..

My Greatest concern for you and Dave while your working on it... Is breathing in all those mold spores floating around the interior...:thumbsdown:

I surely hope you plan on completely gutting the interior and doing a mold cleaning preventative douch and sealing of any other places the mold is hidden throughout the interior nooks and crannys!

I admit, I am nervous about the mold in the car. But it can be cleaned and remediated. My biggest concern is how bad is mold/mildew under the seat covers.

Take some time to make sure that is all good and clean. Everything else I have faith will come together great.

This is a cool project and wish you both the best in restoring it. If you guys keep and take it to any shows, put a photo album together about it. I love the before and after albums. :)

Very good news!!! Engine is good!!! Did alot today, dropped the oil pan and everything inside looks good!! Oil pan is salvageable, just had to clean out all the garbage and push out a nasty dent on the bottom. Glad I did it, there still was water trapped on the bottom of the pan.. Inside is pretty clean for a 120,000mi engine.
Also got power to the vehicle. The battery got a major charge up that took all day long (yea...it was that dead.) and found out the seats don't move. Expected that with all the rust underneath.. hoping we can still access the motors and replace them. Driver window rolls up and down smooth, passenger has no power from either switch suspecting a weak connection in the soldering.. Sunroof works beautifully! Cleaned out the interior and threw a space heater in there to dry out any leftover moisture. Smells like clean leather now!

even checked under the driver side, absolutely no rust or signs of damage. everything looks good.

The only thing that is showing any major rust is the seat tracks.. probably needs new motors, unfortunatly we can't move the seat forward to remove them.

Inside looked great! glad to see no rust buildup on anything. Soaked the whole bottom end in wd-40 to keep everything lubricated.

Any idea if the foam under the leather has any mold/mildew growth going on?

If I follow along, the engine has yet to be started. How do you currently know it to still be good? Has anyone tried manually moving the crank? Also, if the engine has not been started yet, I believe you said it's been 2 years since this Monte has ran? That being said, you may want to see if there it's a "manual" way to engage the oil pump to re-lubricate the motor before an actual start (I've read about that being done on very old cars found in barns and abandon buildings, in hopes to avoid an engine problem due to lack of lubrication from long periods of no use).

Food for thought. But looks like things are moving along fairly well. That's going to stink trying to do anything with power seats that don't want to work. Another thought, despite the rust, have you guys verified the seat is getting the appropriate amount of power?? If the wiring was in water, it may have corroded connections preventing enough power to operate the seat. Also, I believe the seat has a circuit breaker in the passenger side fuse panel (sadly, on the back side of the fuse block with the rear window defroster, poor placement planning on that one).

We were thinking of rotating the engine, but had a minor setback with putting the pan back up. one of the bolts stripped a little going in, gotta get a new one. its got a whole bunch of wd40 sitting in the combustion chamber right now to relubricate.
