I was at the light tonight and a new GTO pulled up next to me. We admired eachothers cars and he told me his specs (V8 6.0L 400hp "same as in the Vette"). Auto transmission.

He asked me if I was driving a 6 cylinder and I told him it was an 8. He was shocked that the 06 SS was a V8. So then he started spinning his tires while sitting at the light and I couldn't do anything but sit there with my front wheel drive.

The light changed and he took off and embarressed me. I knew he was going to win but d*mn! But it wasn't over. We got to the next light and same thing happened. I tried but had no chance of catching up with him. 3rd light we couldn't race because there was one car infront of me.

But it must have been my day. We got a 4th light together and at this one I got a better launch than him. I didn't floor it, I rolled slow for a secondthen floored it after I rolled a little. He spun his tires a little longer than me and I got him! When his tires hooked up I thought he was going to get me but he couldn't. We raced maybe a quarter mile to the next light and he couldn't even pull up to the back of my car. I thought maybe he was messing with me, but when he pulled up to me at that light he was making excuses, talking about he spun a little too long & he forgot to shift gears. I said, "I thought you had an automatic." He said he did, but its got a "lockout feature" I don't know what that means all I know is when I got a lead on him he couldn't catch back up with his "400hp Corvette engine."

 

more proof that racing comes down to the driver and the launch more than anything.....

believe it or don't, that GTO weights like 4150 lbs....i went with a buddy when we test drove one of those sunfire's on steroids. i looked into it in several sources, i was VERY shocked myslef... but those cars do weigh a little over 4000 lbs

 

2005-2006 weighs 3,750 without a driver.
He must have spun real bad cuz an 06 goat has more rwhp than we have at the flywheel. He needs a driver mod.
They are fast cars for the money. The Holden Monaro looks a lot better then the GTO and they are the same car leave it toGM to mess up. But I'd take the MC over the Goat any day.

 

The GTO needed a little more driver experience or it would of went down in a different way. I drove some GTO's 6 speed 6.o and they will get with the program. The 5.7 are not to bad but not what i would expect from a high performance car.

 

To be honest it looks a lot like a G6. If they redesign it, I hope they make it look better.

 

The GTO is comming back but It will not be a quick rebadge like the 04-06 was.

 

Gt8 will be Pontiac GTO of the future. They are awesome to, lots of torque.

 

Yes a G8 Coupe will be called a GTO.

 

Dodge Stratus R/T, thats what the Goats looked like. But i would still buy one

 

Do some hellish tuning, and a CAI, you'll take him. Trust me.

Great story though, regardless, it thrills me to see GM cars on the road, and being FRIENDLY about racing as well! That is the TRUE SPIRIT of street racing! =)
