might find this funny
I have a 2005 5.3 Silverado Z71 Extented cab and a 2004 Monte Supercharged SS - (and I know its supercharged). My Monte would blow the doors off my truck without even breaking a sweat.
I had a 2001 Monte SS which had the Standard 200hp 3.8 v6, which was pretty quick, but the pull the 04 SS has up to about 80 mph is a whole other dimension over the non-supercharged 3.8.
I have a new 07 SS on order, and not having driven one with the 5.3 v8, I am a little apprehensive about the power. It's got to be way over the 04 SS I have now, and although the saying goes "You can never have enough power" it may take some getting used to.
I have been more than happy with my little Supercharged job. I guess i'll see soon enough.

a 3.8 stock ss will put up a hella good fight but will not win. as far as the SCMCSS's... well i am alittle disapointed with mine. generaly its a low 15 second car i got it in the 14's once. but i'm a aweful FWD launcher! however, if the 3.8 NA is built up right watch out.
OK, let me silence all this debate on 3400's and 3800's vs. Silverados. I actually raced one from light to light to light. 5.3L reg. cag, short bed. I beat him each time, but not by much. Maybe 3/4 car length. He was right on my tail the whole time. I drive an '05 LT; NA 3.8L. I think that in a rolling race on the freeway, his greater HP would pull on me, but wind resistance would be his downfall. I don't believe a 3400 could keep up with it. Maybe it could pull on a Suburban, not the truck. Suburbans are also geared differently than the trucks. My Silverado had 3.73 gears and an LT1 with lots of goodies on it. 5.0 Mustangs couldn't keep up with it. But, that was then...
i can believe that, 3/4 of a car is a driver's race. and was that stock vs. stock?
and i was going from my experience in my trailblazer. i beat a monte ss n/a pretty bad and it seems like the 5.3 trucks keep up better...they still get beat pretty badly, but it seems like they keep up better than that monte did

lol, i'm so doped up on flu medicine it's not funny too, so that didnt help any.
i find it believeable that the 3.8 outran it by 3/4 of a car. 3/4 of a car is a drivers race and depending on several variables it's fully possible the 3.8 did outrun the truck.
but i'm still standing my ground that if all things were fairly even the truck would take the car. but that would include not much gas, not a bed full of stuff, not carrying any other passengers, etc in the truck. and the fact that they were both either stock...or modded to be about the same fits into that story too.
im not saying it's impossible for a 3.8 to outrun a 5.3 in a truck. i'm saying stock vs. stock (to keep things simple) i think the 5.3 would take the win.
if none of this makes sense i'll stop while i'm ahead and try again when i'm not floating through the air lol

Yup. Stock to stock (except for my K&N air filter). We each had one passenger, and he had nothing in the bed. The only other variable is gas. I only had 1/4 tank at the time. If he was full, that's a lot more gas hence more weight. Those trucks have a 26 gallon tank, I believe. Also, he was 2WD.
i think the important thing is that a v6 beat a v8 na na na na na ****LMAO**** jk, i think that if i smoked a 5.3l in my supercharged 3.8, a regular 3.8 should take it also i would think

i'm not doubting that you did, in fact, outrun the 5.3. not a doubt in my head, as i know what both cars are capable of. i'm just saying i wouldn't pull up to every stoplight with the cocky attitude that just cause you outran 1 you can outrun them all. and that's not even from a modding stand point. some engine's are dogs from the factory and other's are freaks. like i said about gears too, a 3.73 posi is going to take off better than a 3.42 open diff.
wiz kidd...did you word that right? or am i missing something important that makes n/a 3.8's run better than s/c 3.8s?
no i just meant that since i was so far ahead of that truck that a regular 3.8 should take it as well, sorry, too early in the morning and not enough coffee yet
lol
