Default Lt3 vs 95 GMC

i have this friend at work who got a 95 Sierra with the 350 motor in it and a nice sounding exhaust. I don't know too much about those trucks and that engine but it sure does burnouts quite easily. He keeps saying it fast and all so yeaterday I got lucky to be right behind him when getting off at work. We signaled to each other that once we do a right turn into the highway on-ramp we go. Were under a bridge with only one lane that turns into the highway with about a quarter mile to the on-ramp and only the left lane gets in .The right lane takes you on to the service road.

I shifted to 1st gear when the started to turn once we turn i quikly got next to him and we went WOT... It was no contest. I destroyed him. i quickly had about a bus lenght on him. So much for his ego but he was a cool today and told me that I had a very fast car. Kudos for him. No he wants to modify his engine and all to beat me.

I noticed the only way to get a good launch while on a roll with the 3.9 is to manually shift it. I know it sound noob but its true. If im going at 25-35 miles and go WOT with this car it will try for a sec to accelerate in that geat (that being second gear or third). Then it would take another sec to realize this and then down shift. So it takes it about 2.5 sec to down shift then accelerate. That delay just kills the fun.

When I went WOT in first gear I hear the tires squeal at about 20 mph. I can't do that in OD gear. It picks up like crazy if you drive then stomp it in muanual 1st gear.

Yep that's what I was guessing would have happened. Those PreVortec 350's are dogs. When I had my old 97 Sierra with a 350 Vortec, reg cab short bed, when it was stock,it would have giving my LTZ apretty good run.

(numbers from edmunds) trucks weight, all ext cab...edmunds listed the same weight for the 95, 96 1500,2500 2wd,4wd trucks... i'm sure theyre not all the same

95 k2500 5.7 210hp 300ft-lb 4347lbs lbs/hp 20.7
06 monte 3.9 242hp 242ft-lb 3461lbs lbs/hp 14.3
sounds like easy pickins...

vortec would do better... but
96 k2500 5.7 245hp 325ft-lb 4347lbs lb/hp 17.7
maybe a 5.3
00 k1500 5.3 285hp 325ft-lb 4621lbs lb/hp 16.2
...if it was 2wd
00 c1500 5.3 285hp 325ft-lb 4235lbs lb/hp 14.9

It was a 1500 and reg cab short bed,2wdand when it was stock it had 373 gears and posi, order that way and it ran 15.2 in the 1/4. It took more than one 5.0 in it's day as a stocker. Also as stock it would run right next to the 2wd, 5.3. The 5.7 was rated lower then it should have been, they rated my truck at255hp and320lb/ft of torque The 5.7 is a low end power motor while that 5.3 in the truck is all high rpm motor.
