the 4.3 is the 4300 vortec its whats in my sierra the LU3 & it came stock with 200hp & 260ftlbs with 9.2:1 compression there a stout lil v6

the one u raced prob had the L35 which was in the 190 horse range

a 4.3 is basically a 350 minus the back cylinders

in the GMC Cyclone & Typhoons it made 280 hp

so with the right mods they can be pretty quick

& with ur 3.4 makin 170-185 stock with 210 ftlbs id say it would be a pretty good race for sure & defff good job on beating him

the 00 seriers engines are gm's way of differentiating{i cant spell} there engines from other makes.

my buddys got an ls witch is the lowest model i think, but his has the 4.3/stick. he told me he got the cheapest cleanest one he could find so he mod the crap out of it. its a pretty sweet truck.

hes got an CAI, exhaust, 5000 plus watt stereo, air ride, suade interior, something like his rear bumper but flat idk, custom tails and license plate location. all he really needs is a paint job and a grille, and hes good to go.

i would never think of getting an s10 but theres a crazy aftermarlet for them.

i fell the same way. but really the amount of money spent on cams, rockers, rods, intake manifolds, tb's, whatever will add up to the price of a bigger engine. it just sucks that were limited to what engine will fit in our fwd cars.
