Default First Night At The Drag Strip Racing

I went to Firebird Raceway here in Phoenix Az and it was high 70's temperature. It was twenty bucks to race and it was alot of fun, can't wait to go again and race more cars close to my own class.

First race I race a lancer evolution that was made for racing, he had alot of engine upgrades and a roll cage and all that stuff.
His time was 11.530 in the quarter mile at 128mph. Mine was 16.080 at 88mph. my reaction time was .384 and his was .281

Second race I raced my buddy TY at the track he has a JEEP SRT-8 with a 6.1 liter Hemi. Ya he spanked me but it was fun. His quarter mile time was 13.409 at 102mph and mine was 16.104 at 88mph. My reaction time was .591 and his was .980

Third race I went up against a Cobalt SS, supercharged I believe. It was a good race until hissuperchargerreally kicked in at the middle of the race,he got me by a car or car and half. He ran 15.430 in the quarter mile at 97mph, and I ran 16.184 at 88mph, His reaction time was .530 and mine was .848

The Fourth race I won it was against a 90's Honda civic, I ran the quarter mile at 16.153 at 88mphand he ran it in 17.98 at 80mph. Our start off the line wasn't great. But a win is a win.

The Fith race I was picked to fill a empty spot against a classic muscle car and got my *** smacked. It was a Chevy SS He did the quarter mile in 12.282 seconds ar 109mph and mine was 16.113 at 88mph

Next time I want to race v-6 cars with no modifications except intake or exhaust upgrades. I just couldn't change nothing except my reaction times. I bet a 06-07 monte carlo ss could take the cobalt ss. It was fun and my budy beat a newer lancer evolution by a car length in his JEEP SRT-8.

My 3.9 liter V-6 does the quarter mile in 16.1 seconds at 88mph.

Wow, I really thought those 3.9's would be a little quicker than that. But anyways, congrats on a fun day at the track. There's nothing more fun than legally drag racing other cars, especially if you can get some really close races.

If you don't mind me asking, what were your 60' times?

60' times on my slips were 2.4 and 2.5

I thought it would be quicker too, I ran my 3.9 liter with flowmaster exhuast, cold air intake and and 20 inch wheels with z rated tires, I be courious what its time is with 17's instead of 20's, I dont think there be a bigdifference but not sure.

whats a perfect reaction at your strip... a .5 or a .0? I don't know if you already know it or not, but when the last yellow light comes on, you need to be going. By the time your brain recieves the signal, sends the signal to your foot to go, and the car actually rolls off the line, that green light is on. A perfect reaction at Roxboro is a .000 and I've gotten into the .150 range.

What were your 1/8 mile times? And I do think the weight of your 20's was hurting it.

Yeah those 20's are hurting it by a lot. I've race MustangandSupercharged Monte'shere in town that run 15-15.1 all day long and I was infront of him. Where you getting some tire spin? I have Flowmaster's and intake too. That is what a 2000-2005 SS runs stock.

That was good seeing racing at the strip and not on the street. Way to go...even though the cobalt won it should of been a good race for you. Just chalk it up and do it again who knows what it will be next time around.

The 20's did hurt you a little. A little taller gear ratio. get some 16's and put them on and try it. Of course wider then stock.

Thanks, I do have my stock 17's with good year tires in good shape, I should put them on some time and then go to the strip and see how it does, maybe i can then get in the fifteen seconds, Plus I heard I should try to automatically shift my car by starting in first then second, third, and then drive. I didin't do that. Will shifting like that work better? My tires didn't spin at all either at the track.

If all is stock it is better to shift it manual, Higher rpms more line pressure to the trans and firmer shifts.
