Default Will tinting rear taillights make my brake lights less bright?

Im debating on tinting my rear taillights because i want my 05 to stand out more. Its a deep blue so the black would contrast well in the rear. What im worried about is if this will make my brake lights to dark? I live in nebraska so im sure i could get pulled over for something like that.

They will make them darker and for the record when I lived in Nebraska they did pull me over once in 8 years but all I got was a warning I would not do the VHT (or permanent tint) like I did it is OK in Oregon. I would suggest you get the removable covers so for you could easily remove them if it did become a problem

or Auto zone or NAPA to get them I do think on your blue Monte they would look great !!

agreed with whats said above. they will make them have less light output. covers would be your best bet unless you get a second set of tails with the tinted ones

I don't know a thing about Nebraska. But in my experience I have had no issue with my tint. They are pretty darkly tinted as well. I have however been pulled over and they have never said anything about my tinted tail lights.

Tintint them whether its VHT or professionally tinted is not permanently tinted. If you really didn't want to get a second set of tails ,which is your best bet, you could tint your set and if you had problems with it or didn't like it. You could sand the finish off and in this process you would sand the lense clear and have to work it back to a dull shine and compound and polish them back to a clear finish. More work than just buying a second set of tails. Also if you didn't have all the materials for this process you would be at the cost of new tail lights.

Depending on how long your planning on waiting you could buy a person I know who is going to put their tinted set up for sale But this person is talking about doing this in about a month and a half or so.

yah now that i think about it, asking if they would be dimmer was a dumb question haha.. but i wasnt sure to what degree it would make them duller. and if they are illegal here i may as well just save my money on gas since its not getting any cheaper.

I know everyone keeps saying the cops haven't bothered me, but I'm really wondering what would happen if someone rear ends you...most of the time it's always the person in the rear who is at fault, but I wonder if they say that your brake lights didn't work or were to dark due to the tint, if that would transfer some or even all of the bame to you...I pray we don't find out, but something to thing about while considering this mod.
