you obviously have yet to tape it up in this picture but when the car is painted are there such a thing as tire/rim covers or do you just put paper over them?

 

there sure are covers, you can buy disposable plastic ones or others like the ones i use which are made of a canvas with an elastic around the back to keep em snug on the tire .. slide em over and good to go

 

Usually when I mask off for paint I backtape the wheel well and drape paper down from the tape and pull it tight over the wheel or if I need more room to spray the lip I will drape the paper down behind the wheel and then take a large piece of paper, wet it and wrap the wheel with it. That way it sticks to the wheel then when it dries it forms a hard shell over the wheel that wont come off when you spray around it. I dont like the plastic wheel covers because they like to move around alot and the canvas ones get alot of overspray stuck to them and will get alot of dirt in the paint because of all the crap that blows off of them.

 

i do that for priming but for paint i always mask inside the fender liner then paper it off, pushing the paper in behind so it stops overspray. i try not to make a paint edge if its not necessary. specially making one in the wheel well where your absolutly going to get rocks. all it takes is one and it will peel/rust.

got it masked in the booth but im over tired at this point. calling it quits for the night. id rather go into the booth with a clear head and not tired and irratated like i am now :P

It doesnt create a paint line when you do it like that. You stick the tape on the back of the lip and peel it up a bit away from the edge so paint doesnt build up between the edge of the lip and the tape. That way when you paint it, the whole lip gets painted, there is no line and it completely seals off the wheel well so you get less dirt in your paint. I hate dirt if you havent noticed.
