My wife's Grand Caravan has roof rails. You can tie a mattress, ladder, canoe or any number of other items to the top of the van. I wish I had a picture to post.

I think you may be confusing the Grand Prix's roof rails with a roof rack. You can't tie anything to these roof rails. Here's a picture of a Grand Prix with the black roof rails being referred to. They're the black moldings on the roof of the car in the picture.
