Default Repair panels?

Hi guys, apparently living in Manitoba has problems(like i had to tell you that) but the winters have been rough on my car and it seems that my driver side rear fender has been rusted through!! i've been to a couple shops for repaint estimates but the verdict would be paying out more than my car is worth i thought that maybe i could just cut out the rust and weld in a repair piece? good idea? tell me your thoughts and where i get something that would work!! please and thank you!!!

Ouch, thats the quarter panel and huge, any repair that looks decent will cost... I mean go to a good body shop and it could be cheaper to fill it in or even fiberglass. Not sure on that though. Could always get the new panel.

And then have it painted....

DO NOT JUST FILL IT! Sorry brock don't mean to contra dict what your say but the only way to stop rust is to remove the infected metal it is just like cancer and will continue to grow if you just fill

thanks guys. yeah a body shop worker told me it was probably pin-hole rust (he had just done a monte with the same problem a few week earlier) so filling it wouldn't do any good in the end. if a new piece gets welded in what are the chances of it warping?

it will most likly warp if u just replace the rusted area & so u gotta use filler on that, but if u replace the whole panel it wont b/c there just spot welded in either way if the body shop is good ull nvr beable to tell, only down side on just fixing the damged area is later on many years from now the filler may crack but if done right it wont, i fixed my whole car im my garage & no one can tell so a body shop should do good work
