Question Removing Paint from lenses

I have recently purchased an '06 3LT and will be using it for my 80 a day commute. I love the 30.7 mpg I got on my first drive in and the combined 26 mpg. Here is my dilema...the P.O. tinted the tail lights (not a problem they look great and are very visable at night or when the brakes are applied) but they also blacked out the backup light lenses. The car has dark tinted windows so when I am backing into my driveway (or anywhere else) at night I can't see a friggin' thing! I have to roll both windows down and use the mirrors. It looks as though the P.O. used a paint like Nightshade or something. Everything I have looked at says not to use it on plastic so I am wondering if there is anything out there that will take this paint off or am I at the mercy of the D(St)ealer for a set of backup light lenses? Any help is appreciated!

If you don't do the swap with Mike you can use a mild abrasive rubbing compound followed by some polish to remove the paint from the lenses.

I actually think I have a spare pair as well. So if you try to remove the paint and ruin them, let me know.

I had my spare pair painted and on my car currently, so my stockers are just sitting in a box.

could always switch to LED bulbs. . . . that's my plan once i get mine back from mike. Mine are being painted over to match the body color, so the brighter the bulb, the better

I tried LEDs in the reverse housings, they didn't project AT ALL.

I now have a set of nighthawk bulbs in the reverse housings, and they still don't do much. Luckily my LED tail lights are pretty darn bright and I just tap the brake in reverse to see something

use sand paper and sand down the nightshade than just use one of the lens repair kits with the coating on them and it will look fine. Its a bit of work but gotta do what
ya gotta do
