Rear Fenderwell Lip Rust

Rear Fenderwell Lip Rust
How do I stop it?!?! The inside lip part in the rear that is painted the same as the car is going pretty fast with surface rust juuust starting to spread over to the body that faces out on the rear 1/4. I'm wondering what can be done to stop this rust from getting to where it is actually visible and eating up my fenders. I live in upstate NY and it is my daily driver (2003 LS btw...), so snow salt is finally taking its tool after 7 years. From what I've researched, POR-15 seems to be the only viable option after I clean off most of the chips and dirt etc. Anyone have experience with this? My budget is limited so it will have to be a DIY project which is fine...

Depends how bad the rust is- POR will work, there are numerous similar rust treatment- converter/sealer products on the market. If its too bad (or if its rusting through from a part you couldn't get to with a treatment), you may have to cut it out and replace it.

thats what the cars come with from the factory. its just like the 3yr 36000 mile warrenty, but its for the body it doesnt cover paint chips or scratches. only things like clear coat, rusting, ect

Covered for 6 years/100,000 miles
Corrosion Protection
Chevrolet vehicles are designed and built to resist corrosion. All body and sheet metal components are warranted against rust-through corrosion for six years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Application of additional rust-inhibiting materials is not required under the corrosion coverage and none is recommended. See your Chevrolet dealer for terms of this limited warranty.
