I completely agree with Kid Space. You guys are AWESOME. The length everyone went to to help a Monte owner. THANKS SO VERY MUCH!

also, if for some resaon the Service Parts ID label is missing, you can call any local gm dealership and give them the first 9 numbers of the VIN .. they will be able to look it up and get you the proper code.

Also, if you ask nicely, they can give you recall/service history, etc if you didnt buy it new

calling the dealer can get you the paint code with just the VIN

alright im a bit confused and lost.i have searched numerous sites and read everything here a few times on how to read the vin.still lost.i have a 13# vin.now ive looked at "the first gen monte carlo forum"and am still lost.all im looking to figure out was what the motor and trans were from factory.everything ive read and have found doesnt say anything about 1970's have a # in the vin just to identify the motor/trans..1972 i know they did.can someone help??ill have to get the vin # again but ive found out it was built in Michigan.. so im not completely lost,lol

My paint code was on the board for my spare tire (spare tire cover)
