Question about rear bumper cover
Hi,
I would like to know if the rear bumper cover on a 2006 Monte Carlo SS is the same as on other non-SS Monte Carlos, and is the same for that year only, or for other years? I may need to change the bumper cover on the 2006 Monte Carlo SS that I am looking at buying, and would like to know what the costs involved are. A local "high end" body shop quoted me $1200 for a bumper cover painted to match the rest of the car. I don't know if this was for a new bumper cover or a used one.

It a really high end shop, and for Calgary, they are in the ballpark. I think they are going to use a new bumper cover, which is what prompted my question. The local pick & pull has a 2004 and a 2006 Monte Carlo on their inventory list, so I am hoping to use that (if they fit and they are intact), and just have them paint the new bumper cover. However, if the cover doesn't even fit, it isn't worthwhile to go get or even look at.

I have been doing a little research as well because I own an 06 LT and I am trying to make an SS clone. All that is left is switching the front and rear bumpers (which is proving really hard to do) I am trying to find something off a wrecked monte, but I found these pictures to show the difference
My understanding is the bumpers are interchangeable, the only difference being the styling. Hope this helps

Thansk for the pictures, and taking the time to respond. The SS rear bumper cover (and the front, for that matter) have an extension on the bottom for the extra trim piece, from what I see. I will definitely need to get the SS specific bumper cover, as my car has the silver/light grey lower trim pieces. I think I read on the site somewhere on this site that this is called the Hi Sport trim.

Yes I know what trim pieces you are talking about (I have the GM part numbers for them) so Im going to the dealer and checking to see if they can be bolted onto a regular bumper.
