New Engine Cover
Hey all. Finally about got one project done. My painted Engine Cover
This is not the final results yet but close, more or less a sneak peak of it.
This is before the clear.
After 3 coats of clear.. Still needs polishing after clear has settled.
It certainly isn't perfect but not to bad for my first project this detailed in painting with the lettering etc.. But I am still proud that I seem to have done a good job.

Ya decent. I screwed up on the letters at first, cause the black wouldn't stick right it kept rolling of the edges etc.. even after primer. So I ended up wiping a bunch of paint off which is why it may look bubbly around the letters. Its just uneven a bit not bubbles. I re-premièred it and sanded it was all smooth but it still showed the way it did in the end result. Ah thats a project to redo next spring. I ended up doing super light coats on the letters and it worked perfect.. which thats what I did the first time..

i would like to add, i have experience painting plastics...send me a PM if you need any help working out your trouble areas.
for anyone else who would paint any part of your car (save for the exterior paint..), i suggest a product called Duracoat Manufacturer of DuraCoat Firearms Finishes. this is a firearm coating, but i know for a fact it will be fine on all sorts of plastics/metals (flexible items will require a flexing agent). as for durability, i spent 3.5 hrs blasting a rifle barrel with 120 Aluminum oxide that had been duracoated and properly cured...it's very tough stuff. as for the heat of an engine bay, this was designed for a firearm, i have seen coated barrels getting damn near red hot and the finish was perfect when it cooled...
they also have clear coats, over 200 different colors including many flat (tactical) colors.
sorry to ramble on, i tend to do that around 4:20 or so every day...
