Default Mounting a new Blue Bowtie emblem

I just got a new blue bowtie emblem from ebay, looks great! I cant wait to put it on my car. My car is missing the blue in the center so this will be a nice little touch. I already have emblem and trim adhesive, but the emblem came with this black spongy material on the back of it that I peeled off because it was so gnarled up it wouldn't have stuck to the car like that, does anyone know what that stuff is and where i can get more? It seemed like it was double sided at one point but I dont know what would be good for outdoors on a car, I dont want it to fall off while driving.

I say 3M Super Strength Molding Tape. Used it for all my shenanigans with the "LOL" car lettering and putting the bowtie insert in the grill after painting it.

Another product you could look at is 3M VHB. They sell it in strips and sheets and also offer it in different thicknesses - some of which have that soft foam core with a little extra thickness to it that you've got as residue now (which helps ensure the adhesive can bond to non flat surfaces better).

Its from a monte I believe, but I dont really know, I just ordered it off ebay haha. It looks exactly like the one I pulled from a 04 LS at the junkyard that I accidentally messed up.

Its perfect, good snag, becoming so hard to find anything in very nice condition even simple things like that sweet bowtie you scored.. Hope your transmission dilemma sorts itself out, like most of our older cars they enjoy eating all the money we throw at them.

Mine goes back to the shop for its 5th or more, lost count now tranny rebuild. Seem to get about 5000 miles on one build, ugh. This past one, it sat unregistered for about 5 months under the carport. Registered it, reinstated insurance, took it out on a perhaps a 5 mile shake down run. Picked up a granddaughter, went to do a quick burnout, plop, never even moved 1 foot. Front end locked up, can not move forward only reverse. So something in the LSD has broke (planetary gear?). Had to laugh, went back to ins company next day dropped insurance, unregistered it with the State and it has sat this way since Sept. But finally decent enough weather so worth the time now to send it in to hopefully get it fixed, the LSD is nearly impossible to find (so hopefully its not broke beyond repair). Found a guy online in Europe with one, $6500 (oh no) would dread going that route. Might be cheaper to billet a new part if need be. As you probably don't know my Montes name is "The Bitch", and it always proves to be the correct given and well earned name.

If you are in a money pinch I would advocate removing as much fluid as possible and adding the Lucas "Stop Slip" to it and then topping off with new fluid. It thickens the viscosity substantially and will buy you quite a few more miles. Alot of members dont advocate chemical patches, but heh to me a band-aid buys time and if needed allows time for the accumulation of necessary funds for a complete rebuild. I saw your picture of the Monte up on ramps, is that also the location where you will be working on the undercarriage restoration? On jack stands, wheels off, if yes I would really consider using additional jack stands as it seems vulnerable to passersby potentially jarring the car and who knows what may happen. You can get a cheese dick set of them for back up at local swap meets, thrift stores etc, you dont need to get into another $60 for new ones. Or get some stout blocks of wood positioned even 4" lower than the frame, something to at least catch it from impacting the pavement if some numb nuts bumps it, backs into it etc.

5th rebuild?!?! That sounds more like poor workmanship on the shops part. I dont know all the details but a well rebuilt trans should be like factory new and last far longer than 5k miles. I would be highly suspicious if my newly rebuilt trans didnt last longer than 5k miles. Some of those shops do terrible rebuild jobs, almost criminally bad. I've been shopping around for a good place to take mine when the time comes. I plan on having mine completely rebuilt, not sure if they just fixed some issues in yours or not or if it was a total rebuild as well, but that would **** me off, especially since i'll be spending $3k for the rebuild.

When you say LSD what do you mean? I think i remember reading about transmissions having this ID code on them but i cant remember the details. I am curious as to what mines ID is. $6500k is ridiculous though.

I was thinking about the lucas stop slip, and if it gets bad then i will do that for sure, but it doesnt do that often. I've driven it this whole week without it giving me issues, so who knows. I'll just drive it until it needs doing i guess haha. I will be doing the alternator and starter myself though.

I saw your picture of the Monte up on ramps, is that also the location where you will be working on the undercarriage restoration?
Thats correct. That may not be the exact spot i do it in but I will be doing it in that lot. Theres a spot on the side of the building with a lot of space where only like 1 person parks so i will probably do it there. I cleaned my car out in said spot and it worked great, plus i'll be needing it close to my bathroom window because im going to hook a garden hose up to my shower faucet and use that to spray the degreaser and stuff off the undercarriage haha. I think it would be ok. The car will be on ramps, plus the jack will be lightly gripping the vehicle, not enough to lift it off the ramps but enough to not budge, plus all 4 jack stands will be under it, and those rubber wheel chocks which are amazing by the way. The last time i had my car up on the ramps, I forgot i had those chocks behind the rear wheels and tried to back out, the car didnt budge, and i was pressing on the gas pretty good, so that makes me feel safer.

Normally 5k per tranny would bend a person mind and they would go look for another shop like pronto. Me, this shop does things state of the art rebuilding them. What it boils down to is these trannys are crap and even more so when you are punishing them by subjecting them to extreme amounts of part breaking horse power. I dare say what we are doing here would give the other Nationally recognized 4T65E shop in the nation a run for its money. We do everything they do plus some specially billeted parts they dont even think about using. Custom billet torque converter and a myriad of other high probability to fail components. get upgraded high strength alloys. A sadly since it is since used for racing one finds they a zero mile warranty. The LSD is an extremely rare part, almost no one has them. Essentially it is a Posi traction front end and both tires simultaneously lay rubber when you are boing off them damn tires. It saw a very limited production run by GM from their GMPP (GENERAL MOTORS PERFORMANCE PARTS) and once the parts were bought up and gone that was it, you either had one or new someone who had a spare. Another company Intense racing came out with their version and it grenaded on me my 2nd or 3rd pass at the track. Another company Quaife" made then too, consensus was split on their reliability. I have a You Tube video where I lay down the rubber and shows both tires getting busy. Watch it and then you will see the trannys abuse... Not nice to it, but it sure is fun...

With your stands if you can make the call and feel good with it, then you are gold. I'm a murphy person, If something can go wrong it will go wrong". lol

Ahhh I see, you race your monte, that makes a big difference. yeah I just use mine as a daily driver. The hardest i ever push mine is when i get on the highway, which is rare, and even then im real gentle on the pedal and gradually increase my throttle. So a full tranny rebuild for me would probably last much much longer. hopefully haha. Yeah that video is pretty cool, and I see what you mean by not being nice to the trans haha. Beautiful Monte by the way. I hope to fix mine up nice like that. My paint is terrible. Scratches everywhere, nothing a good wax job couldnt fix, but the back left panel is down to primer, theres deep gouges missing and the rust too. I have all the stuff I need to fix it and re paint it. I also noticed the roof has little pinhole rust spots too, so i'll have to do those as well. The pictures I took dont really do justice as to how bad that back drivers side looks haha. I also really don't like the berry metallic paint I have on mine as well. I would prefer Red, Black or Silver. Maybe one day i can get it professionally re painted.

Also, I need to figure out how to get those damn ground fx off, and when I do, I will be making a tutorial video for anyone else needing to do it so they dont get stuck like me. I stuck my borescope camera in the gap near the wheel well and just took a cursory glance inside and just from the tiny bit i saw, its looking pretty rough under there.

Heres a couple stills from the video i took.
