this is what i did on my front and rear bowties:

--one can of duplicolor adhesion promoter (i emailed duplicolor and they highly recommended this for painting on plastics, their next option would be self etching primer)
--one can of gloss black lacquer spray bomb (i used lacquer because it has a real nice high gloss finish)
a fine grit sandpaper to scuff up the surface you wish to paint (i used a red scotchbrite it worked great!)

next i just followed the directions on the cans:
--2 or 3 THIN coats of adhesion promoter with i think only 3 or 4 mins between coats
--apply color within 10 mins of last coat of adhesion promoter
--3 or 4 THIN coats of color with ~5 mins between coats
--i let everything dry for ~2-3 days just for good measure

this is all off the top of my head but it should be close to what the directions on the can say. i did this in march and had it through many car washes and they still look great. only about $13 worth of materials. take your time and you should get good results. check out my album here on MCF to see how mine turned out.

send me a personal note with your address and I'll mail you a piece of black six year weather resistant premium self adhiesive vinyl (signs/decals/graphic). clean the Bow Tie with soapy water, dry and wipe with rubbing alcohol to remove any wax. Then remove the vinyl backing and press into place pushing from center to outer edge to remove any air, repeat with a second piece then with a razor blade press the boarder down cut and remove. Five minutes up and out and won't cost you a penny.....if you wonder how it will look I did mine with the same vinyl I'm offering to you. I'm in milwaukee during the day if you care to pick it up otherwise I'd be happy to just send it to you free of charge....or you can do one of the other steps.
