We have a lot of members who own earlier years Monte Carlos, but since we're mainly dominated with 95 and newer cars on here they don't post much. Plus a lot of our members were born after those cars were made.

As far as exterior mods, the 4th gens look great with a nice cowl hood and a 2 tone paint job. Guy across the street has an 85 I believe with that setup.

i almost had an 87 ss running nos and upgraded to drag race for 1500 but the rust work was just too much however my mechanic had it and would have gone over it came with new trunk lids and floorpans that had to be put in. the free car just was so much a better choice money wise

I love a 4th Gen. Had several. Get you a cowl hood as stated that's a must. I think you can buy a body kit also. Beef it up with a 350 bored to a 355 and some loud pipes and your cruising. I think they are really coming up in value now. I suggest just googling monte carlo images by year and check out the images that show up. Also watch ebay every week just to see what people are doing. These are most likely your best bet to get ideas. I think the 305 engine just doesn't cut it. My 86 had the 350 bored and my 88 was the stock 305 which was not even close...I definitely would buy a 4th gen if I buy another. Been kinda looking around but not quite ready. Need to pay the Mustang down a little first if I decide to go that route. Good luck and keep us posted. The more of you 4th genners who post will create more activity among you.

exterior

2 in drop spindles with a 1 in drop spring for a total of 3 in drop up front, 2 or 3 in A-body drop springs for the rear for a nice low stance

get you some results like this
(3in front and rear on this one)

(Photo Compliments of BAD87SS on mcss.com)

nice cowel hood, must be 3 or more inches IMHO

Wheels and tires are always a good buy

if it does not have one get a stand up spoiler
(my new to me 84)
