Default 06 MC Rust spot.

Just found a rust spot while waxing my MC. Anyone else seen rust in this area? Ive taken it to a local body shop for a quick estimate and it will run around $500 to fix it. Body guy said its not a common issue on these cars.

Anyone care to comment on the price? Am i getting screwed or does that sound about right?

I have a small rust spot similar to yours, but it's located right on the crease of the wheel well where it meets the body...about the same size and everything though. Price is a little shocking

the creases in your car is a great place for rust to start, no matter what kind of car it is, the sand, and salt from wintertime driving get into those creases and can be hard to get it all washed out properly. since you live in Dresbach you probably drive i90 quite often, and they salt the crap out of that road in the wintertime (recently moved back to iowa from LaCrescent) my monte showed rust in almost the same general area as well, except i didnt get it taken care of right away..

i sanded down the rust spot with sandpaper till i got to bare metal, then used a little filler (dont want to prime bare metal), duplicolor paint (if you go to their website it will show you how to identify your paint color), and dulpicolor clear... a little wet sanding after it was all dry and BAM!! all fixed for under $50. and if you wet sand the clear properly, and buff it, you cant tell the difference.

You have to keep a close watch on you paint once a chip starts moisture can get in and rust starts so watch closely and touch up the chips,

The price sounds about right to me. A quicky job in your driveway will cover the spot and maybe slow the process a bit but it wont fix it. On that new of a car I would just have it fixed right. Most shops will warranty their work for a year or even more in some cases. Just ask them.

Depends on your skill level and quality of the products you use. I have fixed a lot of these for people while I'm detailing them.
