DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 5, 2012) - The most significant development in the history of sports car racing in North America was announced today, with plans for a landmark merger of GRAND-AM Road Racing and the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) unveiled at Daytona International Speedway.

Under terms of the merger, the following entities will combine with GRAND-AM: the American Le Mans Series; the International Motor Sports Association, which sanctions ALMS events; the Road Atlanta race track facility in Braselton, Ga.; the Chateau Elan Hotel and Conference Center in Sebring, Fla.; and Sebring International Raceway, via a reassignment of the lease agreement with the Sebring Airport Authority to operate the raceway.

Both sanctioning bodies will continue to operate separate schedules in 2013 before racing under one banner in 2014 beginning with North America's premier sports car race, the 52nd annual Rolex 24 At Daytona. A board of directors has been formed to operate the new combined organization with GRANDAM founder Jim France as chairman and ALMS founder Don Panoz as vice chairman. Other members: NASCAR Vice Chair/Executive Vice President Lesa France Kennedy, GRAND-AM President/CEO Ed Bennett, ALMS President/CEO Scott Atherton and NASCAR Vice President/Deputy General Counsel Karen Leetzow.

"Today's announcement will transform sports car racing on this continent, along with having world-wide industry implications," said Bennett. "Aside from the organizations involved, everybody wins: drivers, teams, manufacturers, sponsors, tracks - and most all, the fans. Full Story >>>

Finally! One of the first race track phone apps has been released! Road Atlanta is right with the curve of technology trying to make the fan experience even better! This application can be downloaded for free on iPhones (click here) or Android (click here).

The app serves many purposes for our fans:
Navigation
The Road Atlanta phone app is intended to help fans navigate around the facility. It has an interactive track map that is GPS enabled. The map shows everything from the turns of the track, restrooms, concessions and souvenir locations to medical and camping/parking areas. The most important part of the app shows fans where the shuttle stops are and what routes they take.
News Updates
The app also keeps fans connected with the latest updates from Road Atlanta and Petit Le Mans with the news section. This is updated frequently so fans can check back anytime throughout the year.
Petit Le Mans powered by Mazda Timing/Scoring
Petit Le Mans can be a difficult race to follow and keep track of who is in the lead. We are making this easy on fans with live timing and scoring. Check in anytime here to know lead teams.
Track and Event Schedules
Of course, we added our yearly schedule and event schedules as well. This will help keep our fans in the loop of what is happening year-round and during each event!
As you can see, the Road Atlanta app will be helpful on many levels and will be a very useful tool for those at the track for an event and for those at home wanting to stay in touch.

Car and Driver picked 6 road racing courses around the US that they say, “generally date back to a time when racetracks were supposed to have elevation changes, blind corners, and distinct personalities.” And, “In the good old days, danger was an accepted part of the deal, and we think a scintilla of fear makes for a more challenging competition venue.” That’s right, Road Atlanta was one of them!

That was a good watch. I really like the delta car. Very unique for a company to test a prototype like that in a pro racing series. The car has no official standing, but it's been doing very well so far.

I just took classes on how to 'cilvilianize' my resume. I think that was a big problem with my experience list. Everything was geared towards military leadership/management. Now that it's more civilian friendly, I should be good to go. Thankfully, I plan on remaining in the corrections industry, so a lot of my skills are transferrable.
