ZR1
Well I was home this weekend and took my mom to Rapid City for her birthday. While driving through Hell Canyon in the Black Hills my eyes caught a flash of blue between the trees. So as I go around the next turn I get a full 6-7 seconds blast of envy, the flash of blue turns out to be a ZR1! I saw a shot of the clear hood section and a great shot of the ZR1 badge that was about two feet from my eyes. Now I know the ZR1s aren't out yet so I'm guessing this must have been some sort of test drive or something, so I kept my eyes out for another, but sadly it was the only one.
It was that Jetstream Blue Metallic that looks amazing, or atleast that's what I'm guessing it was, it's several shades lighter than the Laser Blue that our Montes could get. Now I am extremely tempted to not do anything to my car this summer just so I can save up some cash to get it painted that color blue, it looked amazing.

I would have appologized to my mom, cranked the wheel and followed after that vette. Maybe I would be lucky enough to pull up next to it at a light.

I did have to apologize though, my head followed the car so mom had to grab the steering wheel to keep us on the road.

WoW [:-][b]General Motors will use the 2009 Corvette ZR1 to study the feasibility of outfitting high-volume vehicles with lightweight carbon-fiber parts.
"Carbon is one-fifth the weight of a composite, which is half the weight of steel," says Tom Wallace, vehicle line executive for the Chevrolet Corvette, Cadillac XLR, Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky and Opel/Vauxhall GT. "Although carbon fiber is expensive today, so was aluminum in the beginning, so was magnesium in the beginning."
As demand for carbon fiber increases, Wallace believes more companies will produce the material. The cost of carbon fiber will then decline.
Other automakers are interested, too. Wallace says Toyota has announced a joint venture with a carbon fiber company.
"They are not doing that to make airplanes," he says.
GM is looking for ways to reduce vehicle weight and increase fuel economy. America's new corporate average fuel economy, or CAFE, law calls for a fleet average of 35 mpg in 2020.
But Wall

[:-]WoW ~ Wee [:-]

When Chevrolet officially announced the new Corvette ZR1 just before the Detroit Auto Show this year, it hadn't yet finished the certification of its new power-plant, the supercharged LS9. At that time, all the engineers would tell us was that the supercharged 6.2L V8 would produce a minimum of 100hp/L or 620 hp. Three months have passed since we got our first official look at the LS9 and the numbers are now in. According to GM, the LS9 has now been SAE Certified at 638 hp and 604 lb-ft of twist. The official EPA fuel economy testing hasn't been finished and for people who buy a ZR1 it probably won't matter anyway. Nonetheless, GM expects the LS9 to be the most fuel efficient 600+hp engine in the world, a dubious distinction if ever there was one. A special team of technicians will be hand-building and testing the LS9 at GM's Performance Build Center in Wixom, Mich. Check out the articles below for all the details on the ZR1 and LS9.
